Yosemite

Earlier this year we took a trip to San Francisco and area as I attended a photography workshop. After the workshop we drove through Yosemite as we’d never been there before. Really enjoyed the area, it’s such a beautiful park and well-kept. Here’s one of those usual shots you see from there. I processed using some HDR but found my sky was getting really dirty looking so had to brighten up that area. I like the colors of this shot.

Another shot at trying something new … maybe this will be a theme? I haven’t really shot fireworks before, so decided to give it a try last night. It was Westerner Days and they always have fireworks on one of the last nights. I drove part-way out of town to a small side road where about 40 other people were hanging out, ready to watch the fireworks.

They started late but still put on a good show. There was some impressive ones and it took me awhile to get organized with tripod, settings, etc. My cable release worked great and really helped getting some of the shots. I used the settings Scott Kelby had recommended on his website. They seemed to do the trick.

Trying something new

Hanging out in the big city of Calgary today, awaiting my Photoshop course tomorrow with the fab Scott Kelby. I stopped at The Camera Store to check out equipment and I’d like to say I didn’t buy anything… but that’s all I can say about that.

Went to Edworthy Park and walked around there for a couple hours. It’s really a nice park, huge, beautiful green space, loads of trees, hills, the river. There was lots of people there but it didn’t seem like it since it was so spread out. I’ve tried some different editing of the photos, more of the HDR look (which some people love, some people hate). I’ve been reading The HDR Book by RC Concepcion and trying some of those techniques, however I don’t have the book with me today so had to wing it. Always good to try something new.
